On New Year's Eve, while every family gathered to celebrate, Shen Xi found herself lamenting the sorry state of her family's fortunes.
Shen Xi herself had an utterly ordinary job, barely any savings, and had never dated. She couldn't even go out for a cup of coffee without running into her childhood sweetheart, whom she'd lost touch with years ago and who had since become a flawless, enviable elite.
Her parents were nearing retirement, their finances were a complete mess, and they were scraping by while also caring for her grandmother, whose dementia was getting worse.
Her handsome, bright younger uncle had suffered from depression due to extreme work stress. He'd been a shut-in for years, too socially anxious to even go grocery shopping.
And then there was the beautiful aunt Shen Xi had adored as a child. She'd married the wrong man, someone with no education, no job, and no redeeming qualities. Her grief and resentment had made her ill, and she had passed away ten years ago, becoming a pain the family couldn't bear to mention during the holidays...
Shen Xi dug out an old photo from the 1990s that had been tucked away for years. Back then, her parents had been full of youthful vigor, her grandmother kind and graceful, her aunt lovely and poised, her uncle sunny and cheerful, and she herself clever and adorable...
She wished more than anything that she could turn back time and start all over again!
Indignant, Shen Xi opened a bottle of expensive wine from a New Year gift box and drank a glass. To her surprise, she fell asleep with her head on the yellowed photograph...

It's a very happy chapter. Maybe it's the music playing outside that infected me, or maybe it's the author's writing style. Seeing my aunt's happiness and the protagonist's confession, I seemed to feel their happiness too, and tears flowed down unconsciously, hahaha.
