From childhood sweethearts, to young husband and wife, to emperor and empress, Bian Chiying and Yan Duan supported each other and remained devoted.

As the founding empress, Bian Chiying assisted with state affairs and sat beside the emperor in the Golden Throne Hall. Her talent for governing earned her the praise of officials and commoners alike.

The emperor and empress shared a deep love, their bond harmonious as a zither and lute. They treated each other with respect and affection, and everyone could see it.

On the third day of the twelfth month in the fourth year of Chang'an, Yan Duan sent Bian Chiying to her death with a cup of poisoned wine.

After she died, her spirit floated in the air. She saw Yan Duan behaving like a madman, roaring at her corpse, "I am the emperor! What are you supposed to be?!"

In the third year of Chang'an, Bian Chiying opened her eyes to Yan Duan's false, nauseating face, pretending to love her while hiding his true feelings.

Later, Bian Chiying cornered Yan Duan with her sword.

Yan Duan cowered in the corner, his face pale, his bluster masking his fear. "Insolence! I am the emperor! The Grandmaster pointed to the throne and said I had the bearing of an emperor! What you're doing is... treason!"

Bian Chiying gave a cold smile, twisted her wrist, and cut off one of Yan Duan's hands.

Hearing his anguished screams, Bian Chiying felt nothing but satisfaction. Holding her sword, she lifted his chin with its tip and smiled. "You and I shared this throne, but I am the one with the bearing of an emperor."

As she spoke, she raised and lowered her hand, personally killing Yan Duan in the Golden Throne Hall.
