He Said I Was a Gardenia

[Fake Siblings]

Yun Zhi was pushed onto the bed, her ink-black hair spread out like seaweed.

Gu Yubai's face was cold as his fingertips caught the belt tied around Yun Zhi's waist.

"Brother, don't," Yun Zhi said, reaching out to stop him. "You're about to get engaged."

Gu Yubai gave a cold laugh. "So what?"

When Yun Zhi was six, she was adopted by the Gu family of the capital. She went from a pitiful orphan who had lost both parents to a phoenix rising from the ashes.

The Gu family had a son, Gu Yubai, who was unruly and gifted, with handsome, refined features.

Yun Zhi was about the same age as Gu Yubai. He teased her from the time they were little, tugging on her braids one day and stealing her rag doll the next.

When she grew a little older, in the bloom of girlhood, a boy in her class gave her a love letter. Gu Yubai snatched it away and beat the boy up. His infamy spread far and wide, and from then on no boy at school dared even look her in the eye.

Just before she left for college, Gu Yubai took her to see the aurora. They never saw it, but something happened between them that neither could ever wipe away.

Yun Zhi ought to have hated Gu Yubai with all her heart. Yet on lonely nights abroad, she would think of the rare moments when his brows softened with tenderness, as he tucked the hair at her temple behind her ear.

"Yun Zhi, you're like a gardenia. When you bloom, all the moonlight falls in love with you."
