On the continent of Atoqui, the most popular pets were monkeys. They were clever and quick-witted, understood simple commands, and could even walk upright.
They could walk upright! How cool was that?
After moving into a new home, the centaur professor thought about getting a monkey for company, but he never had time to visit a pet shop and pick one out. Then one day, he found a strange, hairless "monkey" covered in injuries right outside his door.
Though the "monkey's" clothes were torn, they were made of fine material. It must have belonged to someone before, only to be heartlessly abandoned.
Perhaps it had been cast out by its former owner because it was born deformed and had developed a skin disease.
The refined, reserved centaur professor decided to take in the poor "monkey."
First, he took the dirty "monkey" to the bathroom for a bath...
Then he prepared three crates of bananas and peaches for him, and built a wooden hut in a tree so he could sleep up there.
"Monkey": ...
When chatting with his colleagues about pet care, the centaur professor was both embarrassed and troubled. "My little monkey is lazy all day. He doesn't like moving around and just wants to stay home and watch TV."
Colleague: "That's great! Mine races all over the mountain, chattering away until he disappears from sight."
Centaur professor: "And yesterday, I was so tired that I fell asleep at my desk. When I woke up, my little monkey had finished grading all my students' assignments."
Colleague: ...
Colleague: "Are you sure you have a monkey?"
Much later, the centaur finally learned that this monkey-like creature was called... a human.
To cheer up his uncle, the former merfolk king, who had been gravely injured and disabled in a territorial dispute and had no choice but to abdicate early, the current merfolk prince bought him a pet "monkey." He kept it on an island in the middle of the ocean, so his uncle could feed the monkey and get some exercise.
The former merfolk king looked down on these useless creatures, which could only live on land. But before long, he began visiting the island more and more often, and staying there longer and longer...
Until one day, his pet "secretly" boarded a long-distance ferry and ran away...
The former merfolk king was furious and chased it across the waves to the mainland.
Then he discovered that his pet had been locked up in a zoo, where all sorts of visitors kept feeding it. It now had a tangerine in its left hand and a bottle of Yakult in its right. It was a famous online mukbang streamer who ate everything except fish, because it had gotten sick of the stuff.
