One night, the Donglan Kingdom released Ping Xiang, a world-ending demon who had been imprisoned for six hundred years, from the Land of the Abyss and told her:
"If you retrieve the Immortal-Sending Pearl from the Earthly Immortal Realm, we will pardon you and settle all our past grievances."
At first, Ping Xiang refused. She said she would feel bad bullying a bunch of juniors, and it sounded boring, so she wasn't going.
The Donglan envoy left in silence.
Three days later, they said, "Get the Immortal-Sending Pearl, and we'll tell you where your late husband's place of annihilation is."
Ping Xiang agreed.
Her husband was Emperor Sui Yun of the Upper Immortal Realm. He and Ping Xiang had been childhood sweethearts, and he had always followed her, waiting for her to look back.
Even after Ping Xiang died, he sacrificed his own life to pull her back and make her live on to serve her sentence.
During the hundreds of years Ping Xiang was imprisoned in the Land of the Abyss, she could never figure it out: did he hate me that much?
She had to dig him out of his grave and ask him herself.
