Blurb
The little disciples on Wuxuan Mountain loved nothing more than going to play with Fu Chengzhi, the senior sister from Medicine Valley.
Whenever she had some free time, Fu Chengzhi would sit on a branch in front of Medicine Valley and tell them stories about myths and legends.
The immortals in her stories had absolutely nothing in common with the ones described by the storytellers down the mountain, in popular tales, or by the old people in the mountains.
"The immortals of legend get into trouble and are punished by being sent down to the mortal world to undergo trials. Once their good deeds are complete, they become good immortals again."
"The immortals in reality are a bunch of miserable civil servants who transmigrate through time and space to take part in examinations and evaluations. They nervously complete their assignments and pass their assessments, working hard to get promoted, earn a raise, and one day become bureau chiefs in charge of everything."
From her stories, they learned that:
The God of Wealth was the head of the finance department.
The Dragon King was the head of the meteorology department.
The God of War was the head of the security department.
The heavenly soldiers and generals were low-level clerks in the organization.
Her junior brothers and sisters asked, "Senior Sister Fu, how do you know all this so well?"
Fu Chengzhi swung her legs proudly. "Because I'm a fairy."
Her junior brothers then said, "We heard that ten years ago, Master Xuan Yue went traveling down the mountain and happened upon Young Master Huo. She read his stars and told his fortune, saying he was destined to marry a fairy from heaven one day."
Her junior sisters asked, "So, are you going to marry Young Master Huo one day, Senior Sister?"
Fu Chengzhi promptly fell out of the tree.
When Huo Changjing, heir to the Duke of Wei, was seven, he ran into a Taoist who claimed to "know the past and future." The man chased him for several streets, insisting on telling his fortune.
Huo Changjing had forgotten what exactly the Taoist said. He only remembered one line: "One day, you will marry a fairy who has descended from heaven!"
What utter nonsense!
When he grew a little older, everyone said that his cousin, Miss Fu from the Yangzhou Governor's household, was graceful, refined, and peerlessly beautiful. She was every bit as lovely as a fairy descended from heaven.
Huo Changjing scoffed. "Her? A fairy descended from heaven?"
Fu Chengzhi scoffed right back. "Him? He thinks he can marry a fairy?"
Until the third month of the ninth year of Shengyuan, when reinforcements were nowhere to be seen, the enemy forces advanced like an unstoppable tide, and Qingzhou City was on the brink of falling.
Beneath the blood-red setting sun, smoke billowed and war drums thundered. Fu Chengzhi stood alone atop the city wall, her figure slight.
She held a thin blade and cut her palm. The instant bright red blood began to flow, the sky abruptly darkened beneath thick clouds, and fierce winds howled. The ancient divine beast Vermilion Bird, summoned by Fu Chengzhi, descended from the heavens and wiped out the enemy forces in one fell swoop.
Only then did Huo Changjing realize that the young lady he was going to marry really was the fairy of legend.
Theme: The world of mortals can be a better place.
The setting is quite interesting, come on?
