Illusion of Light

In City B, a man named Jin Yan posted a birthday invitation on a forum. To his surprise, someone actually called him... Later, they arranged to meet on a commercial street...

That evening, Jin Yan brought his friend Zhan Qi to the agreed meeting place. There, they met a girl dressed all in black, Shuang Ye. The first time Shuang Ye saw Zhan Qi, she was drawn to his scholarly air and gentle manner of speaking... Zhan Qi was a law student at a university. With his handsome face and glasses, he could make any number of girls swoon... They were having so much fun that Shuang Ye invited her best friend, Qin Ye, to join them. When Zhan Qi met Qin Ye, he was captivated by her unique presence. All four of them had a wonderful time that night...

The next day, Zhan Qi's cousin, Ling Ming, came to visit him. As it happened, Ling Ming had some business to take care of near Shuang Ye and Qin Ye's place the next morning. Zhan Qi also wanted to invite Qin Ye out, but the weather was terribly sunny.

Still, Zhan Qi called Qin Ye's cell phone... But the sun was so fierce that Qin Ye didn't really feel like going out... So he had no choice but to call Shuang Ye instead... But Shuang Ye knew that Zhan Qi and Qin Ye were drawn to each other... and thought it would be better to help them get together...

So Ling Ming went with Zhan Qi to the girls' dorm. But someone else was there too: Bai Yiyi. With no other choice, Qin Ye took everyone to another building with a generator... Before long, Bai Yiyi had to go out. Shuang Ye went back to her room, and Ling Ming didn't want to be a third wheel, so he went with her. Ling Ming had studied a little psychology, so he quickly realized that something was troubling Shuang Ye. But asking her about it caused a problem: Shuang Ye tried her best to hide how she felt... but she still couldn't stop herself from crying. To his surprise, seeing her cry stirred something in Ling Ming. It was as if her tears fell straight from her eyes into his heart...

Ling Ming did his best to comfort Shuang Ye, but his heart ached... He thought, Could it be her tears that have moved me? Or... Maybe all of this is fate, or perhaps God has sent me an angel...

After noon, Zhan Qi and Qin Ye came to Shuang Ye's room too. As soon as Shuang Ye heard their footsteps, she quickly wiped her face... Ling Ming etched the whole scene deep into his heart. Seeing that nobody had eaten, Zhan Qi dragged everyone to a restaurant. Even Bai Yiyi went, but Shuang Ye stayed behind. Ling Ming understood what Shuang Ye was thinking and went off, lost in thought... Bai Yiyi had to take someone somewhere that afternoon, so she left as soon as she finished eating. Ling Ming had little appetite either. "Shuang Ye is upstairs by herself. I'll take her some food." Qin Ye agreed, so she ordered a few dishes to go and had Ling Ming take them up.

Ling Ming went to Shuang Ye's room alone. They talked for a while... From their conversation, Ling Ming learned that Shuang Ye liked boys who wore glasses. He felt he didn't stand a chance (Ling Ming's eyesight was perfectly normal). But their conversation finally got Shuang Ye to eat, and Ling Ming breathed a sigh of relief.

After eating, Shuang Ye played around on her phone, sending text messages, and somehow drifted off to sleep. When Ling Ming saw she was asleep, he quietly went over and gently fanned her with his hand. The power was out. About thirty minutes passed like this, then Shuang Ye suddenly woke up. Ling Ming immediately stopped fanning her...

Zhan Qi and Qin Ye finally finished talking and returned to the room shared by Shuang Ye and Qin Ye... Since it was getting late, Shuang Ye and Qin Ye walked them home...

The next day, Ling Ming called Shuang Ye, but Qin Ye answered. He didn't feel he could say much...

I heard that after that, Ling Ming called Shuang Ye at least once a week...

I heard that in October, Zhan Qi and Ling Ming invited Qin Ye and Shuang Ye out together... Shuang Ye came, but she didn't know how she felt about Ling Ming... Maybe they were still just ordinary friends, or maybe she felt a little touched... As Ling Ming was walking Shuang Ye home, they ran into an armed fugitive. The fugitive tried to take Shuang Ye hostage, but Ling Ming spun around and shielded her behind him. Startled, the criminal fired a shot into Ling Ming's chest... The police rushed over when they heard the shot. To keep more people from getting hurt, they killed the criminal on the spot... Ling Ming's heart was in pain... Yet he was happy, and miserable too... Yes, that was the ache in his heart...

Later, a girl came to Ling Ming's grave. "Ming, don't worry. Even if everything falls to ruin, the angels will still shed tears for you. The angels will still..." After she spoke, the girl seemed to see an angel for real, then vanished from this cruel world.
