Synopsis
After Pangu separated Heaven and Earth, the world remained in chaos. Yet amid that chaos, five great divine beasts came into being, along with countless ghosts, demons, gods, and monsters. As time passed and for various reasons, the bodies of the five divine beasts formed the home on which living creatures depended, while their spiritual consciousness was buried underground. Thus the primordial world came into existence, and they left behind only a single bloodline.
The primordial world was not as peaceful as the one we see today. It was filled with spiritual energy. Every living creature born before or after Pangu created Heaven and Earth could absorb spiritual energy to cultivate, gaining spiritual power and thus great strength. Only after reaching a certain level of power could one become a god.
But as everyone knows, becoming a god or a demon is only a matter of a single thought. Gods are generally noble and just, while most demons are selfish and greedy. Yet gods and demons are roughly equal in strength, which leads to wars between them.
There was a goddess named Nüwa who descended to the mortal world and created a creature called "human." To transformed demon beasts, humans were the lowest form of animal, since they had been created later by the goddess and were protected by all the gods. Yet humans could not absorb spiritual energy, much less possess spiritual power. To demon beasts that had not transformed, however, humans were advanced animals, since they could easily hunt and eat them, ending their lives just as people do today.
The most fundamental difference between the descendants of the five divine beasts and those of ordinary demon beasts was that the five divine beasts were gods with immense spiritual power, so their descendants could take human form from birth. Ordinary demon beasts, by contrast, had to cultivate for a hundred or even a thousand years and undergo a heavenly tribulation before they could transform. Once transformed, their cultivation levels were nearly the same.
That year, conflicts between gods and demons erupted one after another, culminating in a battle that nearly destroyed the heavens. Both sides were gravely weakened as a result. The mortal world fell into chaos, without rules or order. Whoever was strongest made the rules, and no one paid any heed to heavenly punishment. Though the demon clan had been badly weakened, they lived in the mortal world and could easily deal with lesser monsters and beasts, to say nothing of humans who had no spiritual power. With the demon clan's protection, the ghost and monster clans grew even more brazen, ravenously consuming human blood and essence to increase their cultivation. The mortal world was left almost completely barren.
As descendants of the five divine beasts and protectors of the mortal world, how could they stand by and do nothing? Unfortunately, their blood was not pure enough, and they could never break through to awaken the divine consciousness of the five divine beasts. So at the time, there was only one way to temporarily suppress the power of the demon clan and its followers: the Sacrificial Altar. They had to offer their own spiritual cores for the altar to consume.
But the current head of the Qilin clan, which ranked first among the five divine beasts, was a layabout with no interest in his duties. He had nowhere near enough spiritual power to offer to the Sacrificial Altar, so the Azure Dragon clan had to take his place. The Azure Dragon clan's head and his wife could only abandon their young son and offer their spiritual cores to protect the mortal world. However, if the spiritual power in the cores ran low, several others with equivalent strength would have to offer their own cores to reinforce the altar. Otherwise, the Sacrificial Altar would turn against them and increase the demon clan's power.
But gradually, the Sacrificial Altar seemed to stop working. The demon clan grew powerful once again and launched an even more devastating "sweep" of the mortal world.
The young son of the Azure Dragon clan's head was surnamed Lu and named Guiheng. Although his parents had left when he was young, he still had ambition and perseverance. His talent surpassed even his parents'.
Can humanity's fate be turned around in his generation? Can he become the master of all power in the world, even the gods themselves, the Supreme God?
