★ Dowager Empress x Treacherous Minister / Obsessive, Unhinged Man x Little Puppet
Jiang Ying never knew who was protecting her.
The dynasty teetered on the brink of collapse. Her friends and subordinates were dead or injured, yet she, a mere low-ranking consort, rose through the ranks to become the new dynasty's Dowager Empress.
The emperor was the child of a friend she had once known. He was still young, and the ministers who served as his advisors all had their own agendas. Unfortunately, Jiang Ying had little power to act on her concerns. To protect herself, she did not dare make a rash move, much less interfere in affairs of state.
Over the course of three months, her fear gradually gave way to calm. In the end, all she wanted was to leave.
On the day she packed her belongings and prepared to flee, Jiang Ying saw a face that sent a chill down her spine. Though she lived deep within the imperial palace, she knew of the formidable man who held absolute power at court: Pei Xian.
As he approached her step by step, Jiang Ying found herself backing away a little at a time, frightened for reasons she could not explain.
When her heels touched a lamp pillar, he stopped right in front of her. His slightly upturned, peach-blossom eyes concealed a chilling smile as he asked gently, "Your Highness, where are you going?"
She muddled through a few vague excuses, thinking there would still be a chance to leave someday.
But Jiang Ying never left the palace, and she could never escape him again.
While locked away in the secluded pavilion, her hands and feet were bound with fine chains. Pei Xian alone tended to all her daily needs.
The warm spoon touched her thin lips, stained with the blood from where she had bitten the corner of her mouth.
He gently wiped it away. "I don't want to treat you this way either."
"But why do you always refuse to behave?"
