A Sparrow Startles the Eastern Palace

Shen Jinghuan had a dream.

In it, someone framed her father and had him thrown into prison. To save him, she believed the Third Prince's lies and became his mistress.

The Third Prince promised to save her father, but in the end, her father died of illness in prison, and she was drowned in a lotus pond.

At the end of the dream, the Crown Prince cleared her father's name. After learning of her death, he even crossed swords with the Third Prince.

When Shen Jinghuan awoke, her father had already been imprisoned, and the Third Prince had his eyes on her.

In a panic, she summoned her courage and barged into the Crown Prince's residence.

The Crown Prince, Huo Yan, was as elegant as an orchid and as graceful as a jade tree. Unfortunately, he was temperamental and cruel, disliked by the emperor, and chronically bedridden.

Everyone said the Third Prince was the one destined to inherit the Eastern Palace.

Shen Jinghuan had always been afraid of him, too.

Trembling all over, she knelt beside the couch, not daring to look at the person lying on it.

Only when Huo Yan sat up did his icy fingers lift her chin, forcing her to look into his deep, shadowed phoenix eyes.

He chuckled. "If you want me to help you, have you thought about the price?"

Tears glimmered in Shen Jinghuan's eyes as she trembled and nodded. "I will do anything, Your Highness. I only ask that you save my father."

Huo Yan's gaze grew deeper. He slowly brushed his thumb across the girl's lips, then pulled her onto the couch.

At the time, Shen Jinghuan thought she only wanted her father to live. She wanted nothing more.

But later, Huo Yan clasped her hand and led her step by step to the heights of power. As they whispered and touched, he repeated the same words again and again:

"Huanhuan, stay by my side forever, until I die."

Only then did Shen Jinghuan finally understand.

Huo Yan had fallen for her long ago. He had wanted to possess her from the start. In the end, it was only because she willingly threw herself into his arms that he didn't descend completely into madness.
