The clown turns out to be me!
After arriving in Gotham, Harleen is injected with the Dionysium Factor from the start. Not wanting to die young, she immediately demonstrates that she can control herself, hoping to get out of the Watchtower as soon as possible.
She vaguely remembers that if she stays until the final release, the infected will massacre everyone, and she'll undoubtedly die.
Unfortunately, the Big Three are cold-hearted, and Batman even raises her threat assessment level. No matter how she begs and drops hints, they won't let her out. At best, they give her a more spacious, deluxe glass cell. As the successfully disguised clowns are about to be released, Harleen cowers in her room, trembling and praying that the bulletproof glass can keep out the other infected lunatics.
"Hahahaha! Uncle Joker is here to get you!"
Whether or not the heavens answered her prayers, she manages to survive the final game of hide-and-seek.
Damian has always thought the task Batman left him this time is pointless: keep watch over a helpless little kid?
Even if she's supposedly a "Dionysium Factor carrier," he's confident that after observing her long enough, he'll find there's nothing special about this girl.
He feels looked down on and brushed off, so he keeps his distance, cold and impatient.
As it happens, that's exactly what she wants. It's an unspoken understanding between you two.
So when he follows the eerie curse connected to an old school murder case and unravels the mystery, he never expects to suddenly meet that nice young lady at its heart.
And that gives him the chance to catch a glimpse of the side of her that no one else knows.
Jason: Your bounty on the dark web is pretty high lately.
Harleen: Seriously? How much?
[Searching]
Harleen: Holy crap, that's a lot! Maybe I should put on a show and kill myself... Wait, someone already took the job. Let me see who it is.
Harleen: ...
Jason: Who is it?
Harleen: D-D-D-Damian Wayne?!
Jason: Wow.
Reader's guide:
The female lead isn't really the Joker. She was injected with the Dionysium Factor, but because her soul and body are incompatible, the infection is suppressed in her body and doesn't corrupt her soul. From the start, she's one of the six victims in the Watchtower, with only one survivor. The numbers are based on "Six Jokers," if I remember correctly.
The CP is probably Damian, but maybe there won't be one.
Chapter one is in first person. The rest will probably be mostly in third person.
Don't think too hard while reading. I'm aiming for a comedy about two people who can't get along. I'm a devoted true-love, happy-ending warrior, but I can't guarantee a happy ending...
My writing isn't great, the timeline is a mess, and what little I know about the original characters comes mostly from fanfiction. The timeline is a total hodgepodge, and I'm using whichever setting I like.
The characters are noticeably out of character. Sorry if it's not to your taste; please just close the page instead of forcing yourself to read. If you drop the story, please don't make a big deal of it. Don't pressure me to update. Discussion and typo corrections are welcome. You can point out plot holes reasonably; I may not change anything, but I appreciate your sincere suggestions. I don't read comments very often, to reduce distractions and keep my mood steady, but I'm grateful for every kind comment. I hope you can share and discuss your thoughts peacefully. Finally, thank you for reading this far.
Theme: Though the body may be impaired, the spirit remains strong; open your eyes and see the world.
