After retiring, top assassin Yue Zhi spent every day pondering three questions:
First: When could she finally enjoy a peaceful life of marriage and raising children?
Second: When would her servant get over being so delicate?
Third: ...
Before she could figure out the third question, her servant broke out in rashes from wearing coarse clothes. When she took her eyes off him for a moment, he ate rough millet buns and ended up vomiting and suffering from diarrhea.
Yue Zhi was so aggrieved she wanted to look up at the sky and ask: Who was the master here, anyway?
Not long after, something happened to her servant's family, and he had no choice but to ask to leave. Yue Zhi pretended to be reluctant, but inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.
But fate had other plans. While Yue Zhi was being hunted, she ran into Pei Lin again. He had transformed into a prince of the realm, while his former mistress was now dressed in rags and looked a complete mess.
Yue Zhi: "..."
Yue Zhi wasn't fazed at all, but when Pei Lin saw her with a bird's nest for hair, he turned his already-turned horse around and rode back to her.
He asked, "Yue Zhi, want to come with me?"
Retire in the imperial palace? Yue Zhi figured she could live with that. Until he ruined the most important event of her life for the third time. She finally couldn't take it anymore, packed her things, and prepared to leave.
All she wanted was to marry someone and live in peace! Whoever wanted to stay in the imperial palace could stay there!
After finding her in the middle of the night, Pei Lin listened to her explanation, fell silent for a while, then curled his lip into a cold smile. "And how am I any worse than them?"
An unpredictable, moody prince with a motherly streak x a sweet, airheaded assassin with maximum combat skills but little common sense
