Also known as Someone Behind You, this is a lighthearted episodic story that isn't scary.
The happiest part of life for Yuan Baili, a junior anesthesiologist, was coming home after work to pet her cat and eat a late-night snack.
Until one day, she saw her black cat sitting primly on the sofa, opening its mouth at her.
And speaking in a mature woman's voice.
"Who's that old man behind you, meow?"
"His guts are hanging out. Don't you close people up after surgery, meow?"
Yuan Baili turned around. There was nothing behind her.
Wait, why could her cat talk?!
For a moment, she couldn't tell which was scarier: her cat talking, or her cat telling her there was a ghost behind her.
She chose to faint.
When Yuan Baili came to, the black cat was still there. Though its features were pitch-black, she could somehow see that it looked exasperated. "That old geezer talks too much. I gave you the third eye, so take a look for yourself."
So cats really could talk...
I really wasn't dreaming...
Before Yuan Baili could decide whether to faint again, she accidentally turned around.
She came face to face with a short, bald, scrawny old man, blood spilling from his mouth and a piece of intestine cradled in his hands...
Th-this is the same bowel obstruction patient whose resuscitation failed tonight!!!
The old man said ominously, "I have an unfulfilled wish. Please help me, Doctor Yuan."
And so, being utterly useless, Yuan Baili blacked out once again.
[Bewitchingly beautiful, scheming King of Hell (the black cat later takes human form) x conscientious, timid anesthesiologist with a physique that attracts ghosts (human)]
[Lighthearted daily life? Banter? Sweet romance??]
They say that if someone dies with a grave injustice unresolved, their lingering spirit can travel to the Hall of the King of Hell and lodge a complaint against the dead.
"Are you the legendary King of Hell?"
Yin Changsheng lifted his head with dignity, his features a black blur. "What are you humans talking about, meow? I don't understand, meow."
His imposing air lasted all of one second before Yuan Baili pulled him into her arms and gave him a vigorous cuddle.
A frail little cat couldn't fight off a powerful human, and could only yowl furiously beneath her clutches:
"Damn human! I'll throw you into the mountain of blades and the sea of fire! The Eighteen Levels of Hell!"
Until the black cat transformed into a peerlessly beautiful woman and pinned Yuan Baili beneath her.
The woman whispered teasingly in her ear, "What, Doctor Yuan? Is your strength only enough to bully a cat?"
*
"I name you Yuan Baili."
"Yuan Yuan Baili, a faint glimmer in the dark."
"May you wake without worries and sleep without nightmares, beneath a boundless sky free of clouds, and remain by my side forever."
P.S. This story is driven by a big imagination and simple logic. There won't be any complicated mystery plots. I just want to record the many faces of life.
