The General Who Guards the Nation was a peerless hero of his time. Who could have guessed that his son would be born under an unlucky star?

He nearly died at birth, so they said he should be given a girl's name to keep him safe. And so the young master of the General Who Guards the Nation's residence was called Ning Jing. Later, the general's wife thought it sounded too delicate and insisted on changing it to Ning Jing, with a different character for Jing.

The general and his wife worried their son might get hurt, so they assigned several trusted men to serve as his hidden guards. Everything was perfectly ordinary, until one day, the young master and one of the junior guards became sworn brothers. The young master even gave the guard a name: Chang Feng.

After that, there was no stopping them. They stuck together every day and could never be parted. That guard was strange, too. He spoke only to the young master and obeyed only his orders. As the years went by, the two of them grew even stranger. The guard would climb through the window to visit the young master in the middle of the night, wrap an arm around his waist, and once, a maid even caught the guard holding the young master in his arms...

At last, on a moonlit night, the young master, dressed in red, walked hand in hand into the distance with the guard, who wore a matching red robe, as the evening breeze stirred around them.
