In the Kaiyuan era of the flourishing Tang dynasty, envoys came from all directions. Poetry and Buddhism, music and dance: the world was in full bloom, and remarkable people emerged in abundance.
One was Wang Wei, a gentle and refined young top graduate, whose poetry and music filled the city.
Another was Pei Di, a dashing young man with exquisite swordsmanship, born into a family of military officers.
And the third was A Wan, a Kucha girl adrift in the world, peerless in both beauty and artistry.
Intrigue swirled within Chang'an's palace, while the winds beyond the city stirred up the once-peaceful days of their youth.
The three met and came to know one another as fate's fickle hand tossed them about. They loved and fought each other,
until, at last, love and hatred faded away. Meanwhile, Buddhism, music, and dance brought from Kucha collided and flourished in the mortal world,
leaving traces of them all in the poetry of the flourishing Tang dynasty.
