The Husband's Rise to Power [Matriarchy]

Chu Xiu was born into a fairly well-off family. When she was fifteen, she suddenly fell gravely ill. Her parents took the advice of a spirit medium and chose a presentable-looking child bride for her from a matchmaker.

At the time, Chu Xiu lay in bed, her long lashes lifted slightly, her face as lovely as Guanyin's. Though frail with illness, she still had a clear and graceful air. She coughed up blood and felt she would not live long. She named him Jinyu and told him that they were not truly husband and wife. If she died of her illness, he could choose whether to stay or leave.

Jinyu was only twelve then, thin and frail, with a face no bigger than a palm and hardly any flesh on it. His black eyes were exceptionally bright. Though timid and afraid, he still gathered his courage to care for Chu Xiu, obedient and well-behaved.

A little over half a month later, Chu Xiu's condition improved.

Her father listened to the spirit medium again and, ignoring Chu Xiu's protests, sent Jinyu to a country estate, claiming it was for Chu Xiu's own good.

Over the next five years, Chu Xiu passed the imperial examinations and became the top scholar. Step by step, she made her way to the capital, her prospects dazzling.

When the royal family began selecting a consort for a prince, Chu Xiu's name appeared on the list. Her parents were overjoyed, and relatives sent letters of congratulations. But Chu Xiu declined the imperial decree, saying her family had already chosen her future husband and she could not marry anyone else.

On the day she became top scholar, Chu Xiu drank too much and had a dream that seemed both real and unreal.

She dreamed that she would abandon Jinyu to marry a prince, while Jinyu traveled a thousand miles to seek her in the capital, only to get caught up in the Yong'an Marquis household's case of the real and fake young masters.

He would be slandered, robbed of his chastity, and die in tears. That was Jinyu's fate.

Chu Xiu thought she was not a heartless person and could never do such a thing.

She had to find out whether the dream was real.
