Wen Sui, the principal dancer of a dance troupe, transmigrates into a period novel as an orphan whose parents are dead and who has to live under someone else's roof.
According to the novel's plot, Wen Sui is recommended by one of her father's old comrades to work as a local hire at a state-owned factory. Later, she marries Chen Zheng, an apprentice on the factory floor, and has children. After the country opens up, she becomes the wife of a tycoon.
As soon as Wen Sui opens her eyes, she finds herself facing a situation where her cousin Liu Qian doesn't want to leave her parents to join an island arts troupe and wants to switch assignments with her.
Wen Sui thinks joining the island arts troupe sounds like a pretty good choice, so she agrees to switch right away.
Before she leaves, her uncle tells her that he'll ask someone to look after her, hoping to put her mind at ease.
After arriving on the island, Wen Sui meets the person her uncle said would take care of her.
The young man is tall and upright in his military uniform. Though there's a smile at the corner of his mouth, he doesn't seem too pleased to see her.
After that, whenever Wen Sui needs something, she never bothers him. She firmly keeps their relationship at the level of acquaintances who know each other but aren't close.
One day, rumors about her and an unknown passerby spread all over the troupe. To avoid a misunderstanding, she directly tells everyone that her family arranged a betrothal for her before she came to the island.
That very evening, the man appears before her with a relieved smile. "Since we're engaged, you can't keep avoiding me, can you?"
Wen Sui: ?
Before Wen Sui arrives on the island, Qin Cheng receives a letter from his father saying that the family arranged a childhood betrothal for him, and the girl will be coming to the island in a few days. He tells Qin Cheng to take good care of her.
Qin Cheng hates other people meddling in his personal affairs, so he immediately writes back to refuse.
But the girl has already arrived on the island, and Qin Cheng has no choice but to go meet her.
The girl is sensible, too, and makes a point of avoiding him on the island.
At first, Qin Cheng thinks it's nice that they leave each other alone. But gradually, he finds himself wanting more.
It's not as if he's some kind of monster. Why is she avoiding him?
