At seventeen.

Song Shuyao was a haughty, proud dance prodigy from the capital, top of her class in classical dance at the High School Attached to the Beijing Dance Academy.

Then an unexpected turn of events struck.

She became a transfer student at a third-rate middle school in a remote northwestern town.

“Just hold on for one more year.” Her former teacher couldn't bear to see her talent dim and urged her again and again.

“I’m done dancing.”

Song Shuyao shook her head, not a glimmer of light in her eyes.

No one could connect her with the radiant dancing spirit who once shone onstage.

In Ji County,

she met Ke Xue, a quiet, gentle, timid girl.

At first, she couldn't stand her and looked down on her.

But she never expected

that this quiet girl

would stay by her side when the world betrayed her.

And she never expected

that this timid girl, who was afraid to walk alone at night and scared of getting shots,

at the very last moment of her life,

would shield her from all the pain.

She even gently covered her eyes and soothed her: “A-Yao, don't be afraid.”

[Her Xue was left behind in winter forever.]
