Broken Branches

Years later, during Qingwen University's centennial anniversary celebrations, Xie Zhe, now a professor in the mathematics department, attended with Song Zhi.

Among those present was a former classmate who had once pursued Xie Zhe. With more than a little jealousy, she asked Song Zhi how she'd managed to win the heart of Qingwen University's aloof campus heartthrob.

Song Zhi raised an eyebrow slightly. Though she'd graduated many years ago, her eyes and brows still held all the same pride and boldness she'd shown as a student. She hadn't changed in the slightest.

Time had brought her no hardship. Instead, it had made her even more radiant.

Resting her chin lightly in her hand, she glanced at Xie Zhe beside her with a teasing smile. "Hm? I thought it was Professor Xie who pursued me."

Xie Zhe's cool, composed features softened, and a faint, indulgent smile touched his lips. "Yes, the rumors were wrong. I was the one who pursued my wife."

Song Zhi was the moon he had fished from a well, the star he had plucked from the heavens, the first ray of light to shine into his dark life.

She was also the most brilliant flower blooming on the steepest cliff.

She was a treasure he had used every cunning trick in his arsenal to win.
