Zhao Lingzhen had been cultivating at the Three Purities Temple since childhood. On her fifteenth birthday, a book suddenly appeared before her, visible only to her. In the book, her master and all her martial uncles and aunts died while subduing the villain. In the end, she herself was left gravely wounded.
Zhao Lingzhen thought it over all night and decided to strike first. She would find the great villain and eliminate him before he could act.
So Zhao Lingzhen packed her things, slung her bundle over her back, and headed down the mountain.
A few days after leaving, she found a ghost by the roadside.
His name was Xie Lanyin. He had a face so beautiful it was hard to tell whether he was male or female, a gentle temperament, and a lovely voice. He told her he had no memories and could find neither his origins nor his remains, and that the soul guides had yet to come for him. A good ghost who was constantly hunted by demonic cultivators, Zhao Lingzhen felt sorry for him and took him along for the time being.
Whenever she saw Xie Lanyin neatly organizing all her things and speaking to her with a gentle voice and a warm smile, Zhao Lingzhen would think, "A ghost this gentle couldn't possibly be the villain, no matter who the villain is!"
Until the moment she accidentally saw the gold-and-red thread around his waist.
