A Marriage of Convenience

For eight years, I put Wang Yu through to his PhD. I watched him go from an arrogant philosophy undergrad to a philosophy PhD, only for him to tell me he'd found true love and wanted to break up.

“Lu Xi, you only have a junior college diploma, while I'm a PhD. We're not right for each other.”

Crying, I challenged him. “When you were taking my money for living expenses every month, why didn't you say we weren't right for each other? When I was doing your laundry and cooking for you, why didn't you say that?”

Nan Zhen, my boss and best friend, couldn't take it anymore. She raised her hand and slapped Wang Yu across the face. “Most of your savings were earned by Lu Xi. It all belongs to her. You're breaking up.”

A few days later, Nan Zhen asked me, “Feeling better? I'll introduce you to a new boyfriend. He's worth over a billion.”
