The Zhuangzi's chapter "Robber Zhi" tells this story: "Wei Sheng arranged to meet a girl beneath a bridge. When she did not come and the waters rose, he refused to leave. He clung to a pillar and died."
At the end of the story, Wei Sheng never sees his beloved.
"I was luckier than Wei Sheng. In the end, I waited for you." Xu Nanfeng, wearing sunglasses, speaks each word with wounded reproach. "Do you know how long I've waited for this moment?" As he speaks, a tear silently rolls from behind his sunglasses...
After her childhood sweetheart betrays her, Jiang Yining believes she is destined to be without love in this life. "My love is fastidious. Once it has a flaw, there's no going back," she insists.
"You're not the right person for me. Even though I once dreamed of being Cinderella, I never hoped I could win the heart of a playboy."
"You don't have to do anything. Just let me love you."
