Monster Lure

A sudden upheaval came, and people began to mutate one after another. Some became mindless monsters, while others gained powers at the cost of having part of their bodies turn monstrous. These people were called "monstrous mutants."

More and more strange-looking people appeared on the streets. Before long, ordinary people had all but vanished.

Yu Yu was the only human in this neighborhood who had not become a "monstrous mutant." He looked like an ordinary person and had no powers, yet every day he safely walked past the monsters roaming the roadside, used his flashlight to pierce the fog, and returned to his little home.

He had a secret. It wasn't that he had failed to become a "monstrous mutant"; he had gained a power that was pretty much useless. It made the monstrous mutants mistake him for one of their own, so they wouldn't hurt him without good reason.

It was useless to the ambitious, but it suited him just fine.

Yu Yu hummed as he returned home, only to discover that a new family had moved in next door.

They weren't monstrous mutants. They were human.

A news program played on the television, even though the signal had long been gone. It warned all humans who had not become monstrous mutants that a new kind of mutant had appeared. They looked human, but were even more brutal than their predecessors.

His neighbor knocked on his door.

The monster gazed down at him. Yu Yu had misunderstood.

His power didn't make the monsters see him as one of their "own." They saw him as a potential "mate."

"Monstrous mutants" only sought to mate under extreme circumstances. Since Yu Yu was a potential mate, they wouldn't hurt him without good reason.

It gazed at the human before it. He was its mate, its partner, its future wife.

The monster's tail began to sway.

It liked him so much.

So much that it wanted to kill him and put him inside its heart.
