Itakura Reiya is a 23-year-old active-duty assistant police inspector. He's currently an intern under Inspector Megure, and also a secret new recruit who just joined the Zero Division.
On his first day at work, he used his quick reflexes to rush straight into a crime scene and spot a suspicious target: a blond man with dark skin.
He dashed over and whipped out his handcuffs, taking the suspect straight to the detention center.
Itakura Reiya: I caught a criminal on my first day as an intern. A promotion and a raise are just around the corner.
The next day, he opened the door to Café Poirot and froze...
"You escaped from prison! That's another crime!"
"Amuro Tooru! Give yourself up!"
Amuro Tooru: "Huh?"
For the second time, Amuro Tooru was handcuffed and hauled away by a new subordinate.
Then Itakura Reiya watched with his own eyes as Amuro Tooru was released without charge and walked out of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Amuro Tooru could practically feel Itakura Reiya's gaze boring through his back.
Amuro Tooru: Help. How can I get the new guy to stop paying attention to me without revealing my identity?
There was no way!
In Itakura Reiya's eyes, Amuro Tooru was suspicious. Very suspicious.
And so...
Scene 1
A clingy figure appeared at Amuro Tooru's side.
Whenever he wasn't home, he was sure to get a phone call: "Mr. Amuro, if you're not home, would you like me to look after Haro?"
Whenever he was working at Café Poirot, there was sure to be: "Mr. Amuro, I'll leave today's lunch to you, too."
And every now and then, when he was with Conan: "Mr. Amuro, what a coincidence."
What coincidence? Next time you secretly ask Conan about his whereabouts, could you at least do it behind his back?
Scene 2
Thanks to the Zero Division staff filling him in, Itakura Reiya gradually became his boss's biggest fan. He'd never even met his boss, but he was sure his boss was an amazing senior colleague.
So Amuro Tooru often had to listen to awkward conversations like these:
Itakura Reiya: "My friend's boss is incredible. He does his regular job and side jobs, and does all of them perfectly."
Amuro Tooru: That's a pretty good cover story. If he weren't that boss, he wouldn't even realize you meant him.
Itakura Reiya: "He's good at everything, and even planned out my friend's career development."
Amuro Tooru: Was his training schedule too easy, or are young people just this energetic?
Itakura Reiya: "I'm so jealous. My friend's boss packed lunch for another colleague."
Amuro Tooru: You eat his cooking every day. No need to be jealous, is there?
Scene 3
Even though Itakura Reiya thought Amuro Tooru was a good person, he never forgot why he'd started all this.
To make Amuro Tooru confess and face justice, and to find two people.
Itakura Reiya: "One of them is a long-haired man with black hair who wears a knit cap."
Amuro Tooru: Should I fulfill my junior colleague's wish and try to arrest him on my next mission?
Itakura Reiya: "And there's another blond man. His hair is the same color as yours, Mr. Amuro."
Amuro Tooru: "Haha, is that so? Blond hair is common, and dyeing it isn't difficult."
Itakura Reiya nodded. If he'd had evidence, he'd already have handcuffed that guy and hauled him away.
Later, Itakura Reiya said woodenly, "Amuro Tooru... no, Bourbon, you're under arrest." Only then did he realize that Amuro Tooru was Bourbon!
Amuro Tooru just smiled at him and said, "Officer, you can't arrest an innocent citizen without evidence."
In the end, Itakura Reiya learned that Amuro Tooru = Bourbon = the senior colleague he'd always looked up to.
Itakura Reiya: "Huh?"
Oh god, what on earth had he been doing all this time?!
