Officer Matsuda Goes on a Blind Date

Xiao Tao received a strange text message.

"Qiu, I went to visit your grave today. I happened to run into those two guys, too. They seem to be doing all right."

She had barely had a chance to enjoy her new phone when she received this mysterious message, with no context, no beginning or end, and not even a punctuation mark.

Out of kindness, she didn't point out that the sender might have the wrong number. She never expected that, after that, she would receive several or even a dozen messages every day.

Sometimes they were just a few words; sometimes they were long paragraphs. Little by little, she began to see the sender and his messages as part of her life.

Until one day, her other phone received a message from the same number:

Hello, I'm Matsuda Jinpei. Senior Yamanaka introduced us for a blind date.

Matsuda Jinpei had been in a foul mood lately, because the police department leadership had rejected his transfer request again. And again. And again.

At an izakaya after work, his senior offered him some heartfelt consolation: "With transfers, our boss has to be willing to let you go first, and the other department might not even want you. Unless one of those two bosses is your dad, listen to me and give it up."

After hearing that, Matsuda decided to take the roundabout route to success. "My boss can't become my real dad now, but if I work at it, maybe he can become my father-in-law!"

So he accepted the enthusiastic matchmaking offer from the lady known as the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's union chairwoman. He was going to meet the daughter of a bigwig from the other department. Whether it worked out or not, he could at least make a good impression on his future boss!

Then he realized that this girl seemed to understand him surprisingly well...
