Er Feng Is Still Saving the World Today

[Severe writer's block, updates will be slow, but the story won't be dropped]

After Emperor Taizong of Tang Li Shimin dies, he encounters a strange entity called the System.

The System claims it can travel through heaven and earth, communicate with the Three Realms, and bring the dead back to life. It then promises that if he completes the tasks it assigns, he can reverse time and make up for many regrets in his life.

Li Shimin considers this for a moment, then smiles and declines.

Desperate to make this peerless emperor its Host, the System tries to persuade him for three whole hours. In the end, it steels its resolve and risks punishment for breaking the rules, showing Li Shimin the blood and tears of the An Lushan Rebellion a century later, the chaos of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms after the fall of the Tang, and the innocent people who died in the Jingkang Incident, brought about by favoring civil officials over the military...

In the end, the System gets its wish.

From then on, "Chief of the Emergency Response Team" Li Shimin makes a habit of saving the world wherever he goes.

But... as Li Shimin looks at a book depicting the world's major events, his expression becomes hard to describe:

An emperor who chooses a beauty over his empire? Then step down from the throne! Stop harming the common people!

You can't have the person you love, so you slaughter their entire family and imprison them? Where are the authorities? Are they all just sitting around doing nothing?!

You transmigrate and plagiarize ancient poems as a literary hack? Seven or eight out of every ten famous Tang poems are already in there. Don't go too far!

This Journey to the West is quite wonderful. I've heard it's considered a classic by later generations... Wait, the Tang Taizong Li Shimin in this book? Even Li Jiancheng probably wouldn't recognize him...

...It doesn't matter. I will take action.

I shall prop up the empire as it totters, accomplish the great work left unfinished, restore the realm, aid the world, and bring peace to the people. Not because a task demands it, but because it is my own wish.

I solemnly lay my hand upon my long sword. Must one seek fame to save the world?

A few things to know before reading:

1. I love Er Feng so much that I started this story myself. The main plot is Er Feng transmigrating into all kinds of worlds. Sometimes he transmigrates with his body, sometimes his soul; sometimes he returns to a particular period in history, sometimes he enters all sorts of web novels, myths, classics, and imagined alternate histories from later generations, and so on. There might be a modern world, or there might not. We'll see...

2. The web-novel worlds he transmigrates into will be a mixed bag: romance, danmei, no romance, all kinds of things. If that bothers you, you can skip those worlds. I'll label them in advance. But Er Feng won't gain a new love interest, and I'm not confident I can write Empress Zhangsun well, so the main story is still no-cp.

3. I'm a huge fan of Er Feng and think he's wonderful in every way, except that his parenting was perhaps a tiny bit less than ideal. As for the Xuanwu Gate Incident, in my humble opinion, it isn't a stain on Er Feng's reputation, but rather a defining moment in his personal charisma. If you can't accept that, think he had no legitimate claim to the throne, or believe Li Jiancheng could have become an emperor every bit as great as Er Feng, I recommend not reading this, as it may upset you...

4. I'll try not to reuse tropes that have already been written about many times, such as transmigrating into Wanyan Gou or Liu Shan. I'll write about the An Lushan Rebellion, but I haven't decided whether he'll transmigrate with his body or his soul. I've seen stories written both ways, and they're both excellent... but I really want to write a scene where an ancestor descends from the heavens and beats up an elderly Li Longji, so I'll probably have him transmigrate with his body after all... Let me think about how to give it a fresh spin _(:з"∠)_
