"Don't..." Tong Chen, projecting himself as particles into He Guang's time and place, gritted his teeth and said, "Fine. I beg you, don't die."

In 2523, Earth's ecological environment had deteriorated, and most species had gone extinct.

The scientific research group behind the World Species Rescue Plan developed an Endangered Species Survival System. It sent souls suited to specific animals into particular eras to carry out species rescue missions.

Tong Chen, a researcher on the project team who wasn't good with words, was ostracized and given only an experimental subject that was about to be scrapped: He Guang, the soul of a death-row criminal extracted in 2050.

The experiment subject with the lowest score and countless bad reviews certainly lived up to his reputation. He didn't just laze around and refuse to cooperate, he also cursed like a sailor and lied through his teeth, ruining his team's experiment reports every time.

Tong Chen spent every day struggling to hold on at the edge of a mental breakdown, wanting to destroy him.

Then, after another several sleepless nights of work, Tong Chen received nothing but the System's countdown warning: [Species rescue mission failed]. The director had also issued an ultimatum: if Tong Chen failed again and couldn't produce useful data, his team would be shut down.

The laughter of those around him drowned him out.

Just as he was falling into utter despair, a voice drifted through the communication system: "Professor Tong, watch closely. I'm about to get to work!"
