Alhaitham first saw that book when he was eight years old.
At a glance, it inspired no desire to read it, not only because its shoddy binding made it look ready to fall apart, but also because the cover bore the title The Domineering [Redacted] Falls in Love with Me.
Even Alhaitham was left deep in thought for a moment.
My home is a book, an endless book.
Alhaitham has complained more than once about the name I wrote on its cover, although his expression never quite matches the disdain in his words.
I asked him to come up with a more refined title. He said the book could be called The Book of Sand.
Well, what can I say? I'm grit, too.
--This story was inspired by Borges's The Book of Sand. It's a wonderful book, but my skills are limited. Although it was my source of inspiration, the story probably has little to do with it.
--Alhaitham is a very charming person, and I find it hard to imagine how he would fall in love... I'll do my best to keep him in character. I hope you enjoy reading this story.
--The Traveler in this story is Aether, an original character, not a player avatar.
