The Bizarre Middleman

In a world where the uncanny is returning, the Creator treats every child with kindness. They grant the uncanny its rules and fairly bestow talents upon humanity.

Jia Si, suffering from an unknown virus, sighs as he wipes the words from the page and scatters the power that twists the rules. He shapes bones from words and fills souls through card draws, painstakingly creating lives unlike any other.

He gives a faint, enigmatic smile as he draws a deck of cards and turns them over one by one.

"A tall figure, embraced by a galaxy strewn across the earth"

Whenever night falls, the lamplighter gathers the crimson flames and lights the lamps. He casts a cold glance at the street corner, lowers his hat brim, and diligently guards the boundary between bridge and road.

"The lamp must not be destroyed."

But... why has he somehow become a social envoy who communicates with humans?

The person in charge says firmly, "Please make sure to convey our sincerity. We hope to establish friendly cooperation with your organization."

Man Luoyi stiffly nods, helplessly hugging himself inside. Faced with humans who call him a big shot and are exceptionally good at reading into things, he really can't do this!

"The kindest heart pierced by the most poisonous thorn"

Betrayed by his family, the benevolent healer lowers his eyes in sorrow. His face pale, he folds rose after rose, enduring a pain that pierces to the bone as he speaks weakly.

"Let this rose stay by your side in my place..."

Why are you looking at me like that?

A boy who always rushes to protect the benevolent healer whenever danger appears points furiously at the uncanny creature sprawled on the ground after being beaten up. "You call this a sickly beauty? You call this someone who can't even truss a chicken?"

Fei Ke brushes the dust from his clothes and opens his eyes innocently wide. "Is there a problem?"

"Meow, meow, the great cat is mighty!"

Born from the hopes of countless cats, Cat Wish crouches on a rooftop, licking her paw as she comments on the mangled corpse in the alley being pecked by crows.

"That's what you get for your own misdeeds. You deserve it."

What, have none of you ever seen a cat-like uncanny creature?

The little girl holds a sausage, looking conflicted. It doesn't feel right to put it down, but it doesn't feel right not to, either. Wait, is feeding a sausage to an uncanny creature doing her a disservice...?

Cat Wish leaps into her arms, twitches her whiskers, and pats the girl's cheek with her paw. Narrowing her eyes, she says solemnly, "Hmph, woman, are you doubting my power?"

Jia Si puts away his cards. Countless figures stand with him, gazing into the brilliant lights. He gives a soft laugh and raises his glass. "Here's to this mad world!"

"And to myself."

Note:

① Jia Si's soul is woven into every secret identity. Although each has their own personality and story, in a sense, they are all Jia Si.

② The secret identities have their own relationships and friendships. They bicker and fool around in everyday life, but stand together against outsiders when it matters.
