The Honored Concubine

Zhaozhao was the concubine of Jiang Huaixing, the wealthiest man in Jiangnan. She knew nothing of her origins, had forgotten her past, and did not even know whether her name was real. Jiang Huaixing had bought her from someone else on a whim, like a plaything.

Jiang Huaixing despised her status, yet could not bear to part with her beautiful face. So he belittled her until she was lower than dirt, while forcing her to keep him company night after night.

Zhaozhao saw him as her salvation and her only support. No matter how badly he treated her, she would smile and put up with it. As time passed, he came to believe that no matter how far he went, Zhaozhao would never leave him.

That was why he dared to tell her outright that he was going to marry, and warned her to remember her place and behave properly from then on.

Unexpectedly, the first time his fiancée met her, she gave Zhaozhao a show of authority, slapping her so hard that her face stayed swollen for three days. He felt sorry for her, but did not speak up on her behalf.

He had only meant to test her reaction, never imagining the outcome would be so devastating.

Zhaozhao disappeared, just as suddenly as she had once appeared by his side...

When they met again, she was still called Zhaozhao, but now she had a surname before her name: Yan, the surname of the royal family of Dacheng. She was no longer his concubine, but the most revered Eldest Princess in the empire, The Outcast, second only to the emperor and above everyone else.

His existence had become the most humiliating part of the unattainable woman's past, but he could no longer let her go.
