Ruan Mi and Yin Qing sat together for a whole semester without ever crossing paths, barely saying ten words to each other.

Their teacher was very pleased with this seating arrangement, so theirs were the only seats in the entire class that were permanently paired.

Ruan Mi thought things would stay that way, until one night she transmigrated into Yin Qing's cat.

She tried to run away, but Yin Qing held her close, her soft lips against the cat's fluffy ears.

"A little kitty who wanders off might run into bad people, you know."

She was a student by day and a cat by night. This went on for a long time, until one day their balance was disrupted.

When Ruan Mi transmigrated into the cat, something seemed to glitch. She had only a cat's ears and tail; the rest of her remained human.

Then she heard footsteps drawing closer.

She curled up in a corner with her eyes shut, covering her ears with both hands in an attempt to hide her condition.

But she felt the person in front of her crouch down, coming closer and closer until she was trapped against the wall.

That night, Su Miao was asked to drink toast after toast, and another glass was placed in front of her.

Then her legs visibly transformed into a shimmering fish tail beneath the crystal chandelier.

Bai Jin kissed her hair. "Mm-hm, you love me."
