As a perk for participating in the closed beta of Cloudrest Online, Shen Yu's alt account had a bound item gifted by the developers. Using it could forcibly "divorce" players who had married in-game.
One day, when he logged into this alt account, which he hadn't touched in two years, to use the item, Tian Lan, the "ex-husband" whose in-game bond he'd unilaterally severed, came looking for him.

In his junior year, Shen Yu moved back into the dorm. After his sweet, caring roommates pleaded with him, he agreed to log into the alt account he hadn't touched for two years and play a healer to help them climb the Arena rankings.
Shen Yu logged into his alt, whose level and gear were relics from a bygone era, only to be invited by his "ex-husband" Tian Lan to join a guild from the opposing faction. While grinding dungeons to level up, they also triggered a hidden world quest from the new expansion.
Before long, Shen Yu ended up in a gossip forum post, and his identity was exposed:
[Gossip Forum: A flirty healer has joined our guild...]
Shen Yu switched to his main, [No Fluff], and teamed up with Tian Lan to claim the first dungeon clear. Then he sent Tian Lan straight to the game's gossip boards:
[Exposé: The number-one faction guild leader on this server is two-timing with a healer alt, ttmm, and a swordsman from the opposing faction...]
Shen Yu: ...
