[A writing exercise. The prose is rough and the plot a little over-the-top. Not recommended.]

Coming soon: Fishing with Warm Water
[Fake good girl, actually a master flirt X cocky guy with a hopeless crush]
He Jinfeng was a well-known figure at Nanli High School: cocky, flirtatious, and a little wicked, with a pack of cigarettes always in his pocket.
Shi Ran was his polar opposite.
Gentle, quiet, and well-behaved, she was every teacher’s favorite. Those labels stuck to her wherever she went.
Even seeing a cigarette pack made her shoulders twitch.
The two, who should never have crossed paths, unexpectedly became desk mates.
After class, a friend brought He Jinfeng a love letter. “The class monitor from Class Three sent it. You know, that really well-behaved top student.”
He Jinfeng lifted his head from the crook of his arm. Propping himself up lazily, he said coolly, “I don’t like good girls.”
“Then what kind do you like?”
“Wild ones,” he said, making it up on the spot. “The wilder, the better.”
Beside him, Shi Ran was quietly taking notes. The tip of her pen paused.
Her eyes rose slowly beneath her short hair, their outer corners lifting like a little fox taking off its mask.

He Jinfeng skipped evening study hall again.
It was midnight at the basketball court. The boy’s arm swung up, and the ball went straight through the hoop with a thump.
Glancing back, he noticed his well-behaved desk mate walking toward him with a book in her arms.
Thinking she was here to tell him to go back, He Jinfeng tossed another ball with a careless air. “I’m not going back. Get lost.”
Shi Ran only gave him a faint glance.
Then she walked closer and reached out. With the slender right hand she used to hold her pen, she slipped into He Jinfeng’s trouser pocket, her fingertips moving slowly down his thigh until she drew out the cigarettes.
She took out one and expertly held it between her lips.
“Got a lighter?” she asked.
He Jinfeng stared at her coldly. After a long pause, he gave a derisive laugh. “You’re pretty good at pretending.”
“If you don’t, that’s fine.” Shi Ran pulled a silver lighter from beneath her school uniform skirt and lit the cigarette with practiced ease. She held it between her lips again, her red smile more alluring than a blazing rose. “I’ve got one.”
She took a step closer and looked up at him, a sly glint in her eyes. “Want to try mine?”
