Synopsis:
The colleagues at the Administration Bureau all say that playing a background character in a story is the easiest job. From logging in to getting killed off, sometimes all it takes is three lines.
So when assigned to a new department, Xie Qijing chose to become a background-character actor without hesitation.
On his missions, he tried to die quickly, die early, and die cleanly.
However, when the first world ended, he and his support System stared at each other in mutual confusion.
The System comforted him: "It was your first time. Everyone slips up now and then."
In the second world, Xie Qijing watched helplessly as his mission progress jumped from 0 to -1.
"System, you can lose progress too?"
The System replied, "Dear, I had no idea either."
World after world, mission after mission, Xie Qijing's progress kept hovering around 0.
For the first time, the Administration Bureau's mission takers witnessed what it meant for 0 to be both the beginning and the end.
*World One
"You insist on going your own way and refuse to trust the protagonist. As a result, everyone forgets and abandons you in an infinite-flow space crawling with monsters. Countless monsters swarm over you and tear you apart."
Xie Qijing carried out his mission smoothly. As he watched the passage to the real world close forever, the monsters roared with fury and unwillingness.
He grabbed a bizarre-looking monster and said, "Eat me."
Under his expectant gaze, the tentacled monster trembled and even tore off the limb he was holding before scampering out of sight.
Xie Qijing: ??? Was he that scary?
Later, he finally realized that it wasn't him scaring the monsters away. It was the other monster that had been following him.
He asked it, "Do you want to eat me?"
The silent monster let out an unintelligible sound.
Xie Qijing couldn't understand it. He just tried to get this big fellow following him to eat him.
But no matter how hard he tried, the monster never showed the slightest inclination to treat him as food.
He asked again, "You aren't going to eat me?"
With difficulty, it imitated the vibrations of a human vocal cord and stammered, "N-no. You are the human I raised."
It found food, clean water, and clothes, piling them up beside the human it was raising.
It ate monster after monster, digesting their knowledge of humans, and carefully tried to keep the fragile butterfly circling around it for as long as possible.
It didn't understand love. It only knew it had met a human who was fragrant and soft, and it had never met another human this special.
Note: The protagonist is loved by everyone, and the story is pure wish fulfillment. The other worlds follow a similar formula to World One.
