In ancient times, there was a pair of twin lotuses, one red and one white, one righteous and one wicked, known as the Xuexi Flower. Legend said that whoever obtained the Xuexi Flower would rule the world. The martial world and the imperial court alike vied to claim it, plunging the land into chaos. The twin lotuses were sealed away and transformed into an ancient divine artifact and an ancient weapon of destruction. For a time, no one dared to seek them out. Centuries later, the twin lotuses absorbed the essence of heaven and earth, cultivated human forms, and became twin sisters.
The Xuexi Flower has appeared in the world once more. Is this a blessing or a curse?
Merfolk are monsters from the "Merfolk" chapter of the Classic of Mountains and Seas, said to exist only in legend. Every part of a merperson is precious. When one appeared, it threw the Great Yue Dynasty into turmoil. The merfolk princess Yanxi was abandoned in the human world as a child because of a prophecy that she would destroy her clan. At sixteen, the empress brought her back to the merfolk, where she met her brother, the merfolk prince Yanshu, and Wanyi, the human girl who had taken her place for sixteen years. Yanxi refused to stay with the merfolk under the sea and returned to the human world, while Wanyi resolved to kill her and take her place for good.
Provoked by Wanyi, the merfolk grew hostile toward Yanxi, ultimately bringing disaster upon their entire clan. By the time the truth emerged, their regrets came too late. Yanxi revealed her merfolk form, only to fall victim to the human emperor's greed. The Xuexi Flower on the other shore appeared once more, unleashing a storm of bloodshed...
