Blurb:
One summer when they were seventeen, Meng Qi and Si Jianxing walked side by side along the streets of their small town.
When she saw a stray dog by the roadside, she felt sorry for it and wanted to buy it some food. He stopped her.
Looking into her eyes, Si Jianxing slowly gestured with his hands: Do you know how cruel it is to feed it and then not take it home?
They were still young then. Meng Qi was naive and didn't understand what was cruel about it.
Years later, in the bitter winter when she was twenty-four, a man blocked Meng Qi at her front door. His familiar yet unfamiliar black eyes stared fixedly at her as he enunciated every word:
"Did I ever tell you that strays have no shame?"
"You only have to feed one once, and it'll decide you're its person."
"It'll cling to you until death."
