A Mermaid King from the Start [Doomsday]

# I am a merperson, king of the ocean, and the world's greatest treasure.

The apocalypse descends upon the globe. Disasters strike one after another, sea levels rise rapidly, and Earth gradually turns into an ocean, with urban areas on land becoming isolated islands.

Not only is the environment changing, but plants and animals are mutating too. Humanity, having lost vast swaths of land, is the only one struggling to survive.

They gaze miserably at the vast ocean, wondering how they might retrieve the useful resources beneath it.

Until one day, someone finds a merperson by the sea.

*

Before any of this happened, Jiang Yufeng was soaking in the bathtub, sipping juice and watching a movie, thoroughly enjoying his vacation.

But a sudden violent tremor made him slip as he stood up. He hit the tub and passed out.

When Jiang Yufeng woke up, he saw his own gorgeous, dazzling blue-and-gold fish tail.

Jiang Yufeng: "??!"

Wait, am I seeing things? What the hell is this!

I was already a miserable wage slave, practically worked to death. Now I can't even be human anymore?!

*

That wasn't all. As a merperson, Jiang Yufeng had to swim in the sea every day. Otherwise, without seawater to nourish his tail, he couldn't turn it back into a normal pair of legs.

But one time, just as he was about to come ashore, a man suddenly appeared on the beach and stared intently at his huge tail.

Jiang Yufeng: "!!!" Aaaah, I've been exposed!

The merpeople are doomed! I don't want to become sashimi!

The man held a gun and said coldly, "Please come with me."

Reporting to headquarters: I've caught a wild adult merperson!

Merpeople make collecting resources from the seabed so much easier. Looks like I'm getting a bonus this year.

# Damn it, they all want me to work for free!

# Huh? You're offering me a secure government job? (Merperson ponders) (Nods enthusiastically)
