A sudden burst of inspiration, a plot that wanders wherever it likes, and a light, brainless read.
Blurb:
Feng Yan is a Genshin Impact player who hates watching the story. While a quest was playing, he switched out of the game to watch a stream of someone eating mushroom hot pot. Just as his mouth began to water, a wave of dizziness hit him.
He closed his eyes, then opened them to find himself holding his phone in the middle of an unfamiliar jungle.
Feng Yan: !!??
Wait, yellow mushrooms on the ground and strange plants twice as tall as a person. Why do they look familiar?
There was a rustling through the branches and leaves. A pair of long ears poked through the dense foliage, followed by the rest of the person, and finally a huge, nearly black-green tail.
The tail swayed beyond its owner's control. The Forest Watcher, Tighnari, wore a stern expression. "This is deep in the forest. Why has someone wandered in here again?"
Feng Yan's eyes widened in shock.
Under his unwavering stare, the pink-white tips of those big ears twitched slightly.
He looked down at his phone. The game map had turned into a patch of solid black, and the character roster was empty... No, a few strange guys had somehow gotten in: a curly-haired man in sunglasses and a boy in a detective's cap?
A new unread message appeared in the chat window, from the curly-haired man in sunglasses: "?"
Wait, why had the dungeon turned into "Rice Flower Town: Battle Royale" and "Mafia Brawl"?!
Tighnari had an innate curiosity about the unknown. Once he and Feng Yan had gotten to know each other, Feng Yan clasped his hands together and asked him to go "run a dungeon" together. Tighnari agreed.
A dungeon probably meant a domain, right? All the more reason not to let Feng Yan go alone.
Tighnari packed his adventure gear and met up with Feng Yan.
Everything went black, and the world changed.
Feng Yan happily waved to a curly-haired man in sunglasses and shoved a whole sack of edible Sumeru mushrooms into his hands.
Tighnari looked around at the unfamiliar buildings, his face stiffening as his huge tail puffed up into a fluffy ball. Other than the innocent fantasies of his childhood, he had never imagined that he might really travel to another world one day.
Tighnari is Feng Yan's pairing. He doesn't take part in the Teyvat storyline, and spends his days with the rainforest Forest Watcher (botanist), developing a hundred ways to cook mushrooms.
Lighthearted throughout, with a happy ending. The side story focuses on helping the science-minded characters.
It's sort of an unconventional chat group story (?), where members can communicate across worlds.
