Three Years on This Little Boat, Then Three More

“This is the seventh year I've loved him. I want to marry him.” In the turbulent summer after the college entrance exams, when she was nineteen, Lin Yiran lost everything. Then she met Qiu Xing, who was also trapped in the depths. Again and again, Qiu Xing pulled her out of despair, even though he was quiet and always seemed cold. The truck sped down the road as if fleeing, driving toward the distant horizon with no end in sight. In its boxy metal cargo bed, Lin Yiran found a safe place to call her own. It was battered and worn, but solid and secure. After one night when everything went off the rails, they were bound together for a long time, living through two stretches of three years side by side. From Lin Yiran's perspective, everything was an exchange. She paid for the first three years with her innocence. She paid for the second three years with her tears. But Qiu Xing had never wanted her to pay him anything. There was only one destination for Qiu Xing: to hold her up and let her live out the rest of her life in peace and stability, free from upheaval. ## Contemporary setting, healing, bittersweet and sweet.
