*The husband pursues his wife after losing her; happy ending.
Synopsis: Yao Tiao, daughter of the General Who Guards the North, was betrothed to Pei Cheng, heir to the Duke of Zhenguo. Everyone praised it as a perfect match. But on their wedding day, Pei Cheng left a letter behind and ran away, leaving Yao Tiao alone to face the assembled guests.
To keep the betrothal intact, the Duke of Zhenguo's household had no choice but to send someone else to escort the bride, bringing Yao Tiao into the family first.
Half a month later, they found Pei Cheng, but he stubbornly refused to acknowledge Yao Tiao as his wife.
Heartbroken, Yao Tiao willingly asked to end the engagement. The Duke earnestly tried to persuade her, refused to break it off, and even confined the two of them together and drugged them into consummating the marriage.
After that, Pei Cheng resented Yao Tiao even more. He once threatened her coldly, "One day, I'll make you regret forcing me to marry you."
Yao Tiao lowered her eyes and said nothing.
Later, the two got along harmoniously, seeming like a deeply devoted couple, much to everyone's envy.
Yao Tiao thought they could grow old together. She prepared to bare her heart and tell him how she felt, but Pei Cheng looked at her coldly. "Yao Tiao, you don't actually think I like you, do you?"
That day, she also heard Pei Cheng sneer dismissively with her own ears: "I never married her. The man who married her back then wasn't even me!" "If a woman throws herself at you, you might as well enjoy it..."
At last, Yao Tiao gave up hope.
She leaped from a cliff, ending this absurd life once and for all.
She never saw Pei Cheng go pale and rush after her, leaping off the cliff too.
-
Pei Cheng knew his wife was beautiful, gentle, and clever, with a sharpness of her own. She was a rare and lovely woman in this world.
He should have cherished and loved her.
But she was the wife his father had chosen for him and forced him to marry.
He refused to admit that he loved her, yet he couldn't bear to see her grow cold and stop loving him. He had planned to take her as his bride again once everything was over, so the two of them could live happily together. He never expected her to give him divorce papers and leap from the cliff.
He jumped after her and searched the foot of the cliff, but found only a shattered corpse.
*
Many years later, Pei Cheng rode without direction past a small village and unexpectedly came upon a mother and child.
The plainly dressed woman looked exactly like his wife, who had died young.
"Mother, why is that man crying?"
"Maybe he has an eye disease." The woman took the boy's hand and calmly said, "Let's go home. Your father is waiting for us to eat."

Reader's guide:
1. This is a husband-pursues-wife-after-losing-her story. The male lead does not change. The heroine is somewhat vulnerable early on. After she fakes her death by jumping off a cliff, there is a running-away-while-pregnant element. The male lead suffers more later on, and the ending is happy.
2. The male lead loves only the heroine, and is pure in both body and heart, but he's stubborn and sharp-tongued. The more stubborn he is early on, the fiercer the consequences later.
3. The heroine's cliff jump is a planned and carefully arranged fake death, not a reckless leap.

As Chi Jiao died, she thought: In my next life, I don't want to meet Sheng Jingshi again. I don't want to love him or marry him ever again.
But after she died, she didn't reincarnate. Instead, she returned to the family banquet she had attended at sixteen!
Her father was asking Sheng Jingshi whether he was betrothed. The handsome twenty-year-old top scholar had yet to answer when Chi Jiao blurted out, "I won't marry him!"
Sheng Jingshi, who had been about to take the opportunity to ask for her hand, froze mid-smile.
After the banquet, her mother pulled her aside to ask why.
Chi Jiao warily glanced around, then lowered her voice. "It's not that I don't think he's good enough. He absolutely cannot be chosen!"
Madam Chi: "Why can't he?"
Chi Jiao: "He can't have children. He's no good!"
Even if Sheng Jingshi was handsome, even if he was the top scholar, even if he would become the youngest chancellor of the Three Departments in Great Zhou, he couldn't have children!
She had been married to him for eighteen years. They should have had children and grandchildren all around them, but she died alone. What else could it mean if not that he couldn't have children?!
A man who can't have children is no good!
Sheng Jingshi, who happened to hear her from the shadows: ???!!!
*
Sheng Jingshi died three years after his wife passed away from illness.
Looking back on his life before he died, he had done right by the people of the realm, his parents, and his teachers. The only person he had grievously failed was his beloved wife.
When he opened his eyes again, Sheng Jingshi had returned to the year he came of age.
The regrets of the past had yet to happen, and his wife was still waiting for him to come and ask for her hand.
Sheng Jingshi went to the Chi household full of anticipation, only to hear Chi Jiao reject him on the spot.
Sheng Jingshi couldn't understand. Why did the wife who had treasured him like a jewel in their previous life ignore him in this one and want to marry someone else?
Then, by chance, he heard her say, "He's fine as a friend, but no good as a husband."
Sheng Jingshi finally lost his patience and pressed Chi Jiao into a corner, demanding, "What's wrong with me?"
Chi Jiao answered boldly, though she had no real justification. "You can't have children. Of course you're no good!"
Sheng Jingshi: ?????
Was that his fault? That was the problem of every man in the world!
Theme: These stars are not the ones from last night. For whom do I stand beneath the moonlit dew until midnight?
Look at what Chao Hanneng can do, what does his baby's last name have to do with you?
Is it a trap? No explanation at all!! Annoying!
The male protagonist is so capable of being a green tea
What qualifications does Po Chaohan have to be here? Stay wherever it's cool!
Why is it getting more and more confusing? Let's finish writing it quickly.
The author is really good at writing about crying, I just like crying hehehe
It's the first time I've seen the male protagonist of Jinjiang secretly buy some kind of strength-building drugs. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
The author shouldn't have to worry about that person. He wants to read and criticize it. If he doesn't like it, just don't read it. I'm so speechless to this person. I think it's very well written!!!
Damn, do you still want to update? Www
Damn, is this book finished or... I want to watch a sweet story 😳😳😳
