When Li Rao thrust her sword at Zhao Hailou's heart, memories of the past came to her mind:
She fought a demon cultivator, and he took a sword for her, nearly losing his life.
A demon beast wounded her, and he risked his life to protect her.
Their breaths mingled, and he often murmured her name hoarsely by her ear.
People always said, "Zhao Hailou is a disciple of the demonic sect. He practices heretical arts, so his heart must be corrupt."
She took Zhao Hailou's hand. "He would never do that. I would never be with a scoundrel."
She had once thought he was merely misunderstood because he came from a bad background.

The ancient ferocious beast Chiyan Jinni was cruel by nature and knew nothing of human love.
To heal his old wounds and rule the Three Realms, he set his sights on the Heart of Blazing Light, a divine treasure from the God Realm that had fallen into the mortal world.
The divine treasure had entered Li Rao's soul, and only by joining with her again and again could he absorb its power.
He hid his identity to approach her and sent his subordinates to attack her.
Taking blows for her and suffering wounds in her place were nothing but ways to earn her trust and gradually possess her.
Until one day, he became the ruler of the Three Realms, only for Li Rao to discover his secret.
Li Rao wanted nothing more to do with him.
She coldly shook off his hand and stabbed him in the heart with her sword.

In all his ten thousand years of existence since primordial times, Zhao Hailou's heart had never hurt like this.
He removed his demonic bones and coughed up blood from his heart, then carefully clutched the corner of Li Rao's skirt.
"Please, look at me. Looking at me now, would you say I'm a good person?"
"I don't want anything anymore. Please come back to me, okay?"
