A Commoner's Life: Notes from My Days as a Young Wife

Gu Wanwan used to own a small private dining restaurant in her previous life. In one fateful moment, she transmigrated into a book and became a young woman from the common folk, so poor her family had barely a few copper coins to their name.

Her father was an assistant cook at a little eatery, her mother was a housewife, and her brothers and sisters were all honest, hardworking people. The whole family couldn't even afford a bite of meat in a month.

Her adoptive brother was the exception. He studied hard and did well, even passing the provincial examinations and heading to the capital for the imperial exams. When disaster struck their hometown, he returned to bring his family to the capital. A dozen or so of them squeezed into a dilapidated old house in the most prosperous city of the Great Jin Dynasty. The roof leaked, the rooms were damp, and life was hard.

It wasn't until she was ten that she remembered her previous life. Then she realized she'd transmigrated into a book, and was the nameless younger sister of a minor character who would be crippled by the villain after being caught up in trouble caused by the original heroine?

Gu Wanwan stared blankly, deciding she couldn't keep lazing around. First, she'd keep her adoptive brother away from the troublemaking original heroine. Then she rolled up her sleeves and became the hardest-working young woman in the neighborhood: catching fish in the lake, hunting rabbits in the mountains, setting up a food stall at night, selling snacks, and making deliveries on the side.

At first, Gu Wanwan only wanted to help her family get a house of their own in this prosperous capital.

Later: This is too much, far too much. I'm making way too much money.

Theme: Work hard and strive forward in life.
