Many years ago, a nine-tailed fox demon lord appeared in the Demon Alliance. His cultivation was already advanced enough for him to ascend and become a god. Yet for some unknown reason, on the day the heavenly tribulation arrived and the gates of heaven opened, amid rolling black clouds, thunder, and lightning, the nine-tailed fox passed through the gates without entering. He plunged down into the mortal world and vanished without a trace.
Bu Ya had been a spirit tamer for twenty years. He loved roaming the world, free and unrestrained. But while pursuing a nine-tailed fox demon one day, he was fortunate enough to witness a sword strike that shook the heavens.
At the urging of many fellow cultivators, he went to Zhengyang Sect to thank Mountain Lord Xiao for saving him that day.
Mountain Lord Xiao was no ordinary man. He could be called the foremost among the many immortal sects: handsome as jade, pure and refined in bearing, like an immortal banished from heaven. Most importantly, his cultivation was unfathomably deep. He was only a hair's breadth away from ascending to heaven in broad daylight.
Bu Ya trespassed into Jiuwen Mountain and accidentally wandered into the back mountain. He found that it was exactly like a place he often saw in his dreams. He also found himself involuntarily drawn to the cold, immortal-like man.
Bu Ya used a small trick to save the sect leader's beloved disciple, then used his favor as leverage to get his wish and stay on Jiuwen Mountain.
As they spent time together, his desire for Xiao Li grew stronger, while Xiao Li's heart and eyes were fixed on the wisp of lingering soul in the cold spring at the back of the mountain.
One wanted the immortal to bow his head. The other guarded a lingering soul that would never return.
The fog surrounding Bu Ya gradually lifted. As the truth emerged, his identity as the Demon Alliance's leader came to light, and the tension between the two of them slowly reached its climax.
