The Cherished Wife of a '90s Childhood Sweetheart

An Chang was born in the summer of 1990 in a misty waterside town. Her father loved the Chang’e in Journey to the West, so he named his daughter An Chang.

The summer An Chang started elementary school, the son of the noodle-shop owner at the alley entrance argued furiously about changing his name. “I want to be called Xie Yi, not Xie Jixing!”

His father asked, “Why?”

Xie Jixing: “Because An Chang is Chang’e, and Chang’e is Hou Yi’s wife. So I should be Xie Yi. I want An Chang to be my wife!”

“...”

In elementary school, Xie Jixing was the shortest boy in class. An Chang would always sigh regretfully. “If only you were a little taller. What a shame, since you’re so handsome.”

When An Chang was eleven, she transferred schools and left her hometown. At the station, Xie Jixing tearfully said goodbye to his childhood sweetheart. “You have to come back and visit me, visit us.”

An Chang didn’t feel sad about the parting at all. She just patted the young boy’s shoulder with regret. “I’m sorry. You’re too short. Otherwise, I’d definitely like you.”

Xie Jixing: “...”

When they met again in their first year of high school, Xie Jixing’s first words were, “An Chang, am I tall now?”

Looking up at the graceful young man standing before her, all six feet tall, An Chang was dumbstruck.
