The Miao Girl with a Fishing Pole Refuses to Be the Foil [Ancient to Modern]

1.

After accidentally dying, Miao healer Bai Xiaotao became the foil female character in a period novel.

The female character had a slender waist, long legs, skin as smooth as jade, and a naturally bewitching face. All the unmarried men in the Miao village were smitten with her.

Yet she refused to marry any of them, insisting instead on competing with the daughter her parents had adopted.

Her sister liked a doctor from the capital, so she used a love gu to force him to marry her.

Her sister used the family's inherited gu arts to heal people and win their affection, so she deliberately infected patients with gu and framed her sister.

Thinking of the female character's eventual fate, ending up in prison and hated by her parents, Bai Xiaotao decided to leave the sweltering Southern Border and head to the Northern Border, where she could play with ice and snow!

In an era when you needed a letter of introduction to go anywhere, how could she get to the Northern Border?

The soldier escorting her cousin home might be a stubborn old-fashioned type, but he was a full eight feet tall, strong and healthy, and a corps commander stationed in the Northern Border!

Bai Xiaotao decided she had to win over this old-fashioned man, then join the army on its way to the Northern Border!

2.

Yu Chao had no parents, and on top of that, he was cold and rigid. He was already in his thirties and still hadn't found a wife.

He had thought he would spend his whole life loving only his country.

He never expected that, while escorting a gravely wounded comrade back to his hometown, a young Miao woman would tap him on the arm.

As he inhaled an unknown powder, the young Miao woman asked with a smile, "Do you feel your heart racing and your body unusually hot?"

Before he could answer, she added, "I've put a love gu in you. If you don't marry me, you'll die!"

Yu Chao knew he ought to report her to the Public Security Bureau and have the authorities order her to remove the gu.

But somehow, he agreed to her demand.

Later...

The young woman told him that the village head had strictly forbidden anyone from using gu. She hadn't put a gu in him at all. She had only lied to hook him and make sure he couldn't forget her.
