After dying suddenly, Xu Jiu wakes up inside a melodramatic girls’ love novel she’d recently read, the kind with a scumbag top and a pathetic bottom.
Though she’s transmigrated into a background character who barely appears in the original story, at least she can protect An Feiniao, the original female lead she likes.
Cakes and Forks are linked by a food-chain relationship.

After they marry, Xu Jiu takes especially good care of An Feiniao. She silently makes a promise to herself: An’an, I’ll never hurt you. I swear on my life that I’ll protect you, even if it costs me everything.
But just as An Feiniao falls for Xu Jiu’s tenderness, Xu Jiu starts deliberately keeping her at a distance. An Feiniao feels as if an invisible hand is squeezing her heart, leaving her breathless with pain.
That night, she suddenly rushes into Xu Jiu’s bedroom and begs her through tears, “A-Jiu, don’t leave me.”
Seeing An Feiniao sobbing, Xu Jiu frowns, then says sternly, “An Feiniao, know your place as my kept woman. Don’t push your luck.”
Hearing the person she loves say that, An Feiniao is instantly heartbroken.
After a moment of silence, she seems to think of something and peels off the scent-blocking patch she’s wearing.
Xu Jiu stares at An Feiniao in shock. Her eyes are red, and she grits her teeth to hold back her desire as she snaps, “An Feiniao, do you know I’m a Fork?!”
An Feiniao doesn’t answer. Instead, she chooses to show Xu Jiu her answer.
She gently cups Xu Jiu’s face, then kisses her hard.
“Mm...” Xu Jiu’s eyes widen as she stares at her in disbelief.
A moment later, An Feiniao wraps her arms around Xu Jiu’s neck and smiles suggestively. “Dinner’s ready, A-Jiu~”

A Cake is a person who has had the scent of a delicious food ever since birth.
Only Forks can smell this scent. Cakes themselves and ordinary people cannot.
A Fork is someone who can only smell and taste the scent of Cakes.
After a Fork eats a Cake, their sense of smell and taste cannot return to normal.
