Qu Buyan kept that person's photograph in the pocket over his heart, treasuring it with utmost care. Even after escaping death time and again, he had managed to keep the picture safe. Some said the young man in the photo had a bright smile, as if the last glimmer of light in the apocalypse were hidden in his eyes.
Qu Buyan always said his boy had the kindest heart in the world and the most optimistic nature. Even though they had been separated, they would surely meet again.
(By then, he would have reached the pinnacle of scientific research, and would meet the young man's father bearing all his honors, then ask once more for the marriage that had previously been refused.)
But Qu Buyan had never imagined that he would indeed find his boy again, only for that last glimmer of light to have already gone out.

The young man looked at him coolly. "Is that so? You have everything you wanted now."
"But it's too late."
Qu Buyan stared at the person before him in shock.
The silver bells around the young man's ankles rang out clearly, their sound eerie and lingering. At some point, a dark purple butterfly had been tattooed at the corner of his eye. Its wings fluttered whenever he spoke or moved, and when he looked at Qu Buyan, his gaze seemed to come from a world away.
Qu Buyan's vision gradually blurred, but before he fell, he used a lock to chain the young man to himself. "This isn't right. Don't go! Listen to me... I... outside... danger..."
