Chi Xueguang goes out that very night to find her. Terrified by the spirits in the formation, her legs trembling, she still comforts her softly. "Don't be afraid. Senior Brother feels terrible about this, so he sent me to fetch you."

Ji Yunzhuo says nothing. She simply holds the injured, feverish Chi Xueguang close, carries her out of danger, and ignores the task to "wait for the male lead to change his mind."

Shi Xueya is healing in the hot spring behind the mountain, veiled in curling steam that makes his skin and bones look like ice and snow.

When Second Senior Sister confesses her feelings, she gets so nervous she stammers. Embarrassed, she lies and says Lu Jiu taught her what to say.

Shi Xueya looks at the stunned Lu Jiu and smiles meaningfully. "If you have something to say, Junior Sister, you can tell me yourself."

Lu Jiu is about to lose her mind.

She lets out a shrill scream. "I didn't! I never did! Stop making up scenarios in your head!! Senior Brother, focus on your cultivation! Don't let romance slow down your progress!!!"

Shi Xueya sees her crying in frustration, fondly strokes her hair, and says, "If it's you, I wouldn't mind."

Lu Jiu's sobs catch in her throat. "Huh???"

The air reeks of blood, a cloying stench that has lingered for a thousand years. A blood moon hangs above the walls, built from jagged bones and rocks.

Lu Jiu sits on the Demon Emperor's throne, staring blankly at the demon soldiers and generals below:

Skeletons, seaweed, giant octopuses.

Blood, slime, chunks of corpses.

She holds it in for a while, then finally goes, "Blech!" and throws up.

She can't make sense of it.

* Yes, it's another airheaded heroine x gorgeous male lead story.

* Not traditional cultivation. The eldritch elements are very mild, and the setting is just here to serve my personal tastes.

* The heroine is super rich and loves buying gear and skins. She spends every day dressing herself up and playing Miracle Jiujiu. She relies on transformations to fight, not hard training.

* The male lead has incubus blood. Before awakening, he's a beautiful, vacant, all-purpose mother hen. After evolving to version 2.0, he's a gorgeous, self-aware, secretly dark hottie who always behaves like a perfect gentleman. He's quite a catch!

* In both the "original novel" and this story, the heroine is the male lead's one and only partner.
