Roses and the Cross

Before the cross, I confess.

Beneath the roses, I lose myself in bliss.

I cannot escape her, a mysterious woman from Germany, the curse of my life, or perhaps my blessing.

A dazzling first encounter in college set the stage for a lifelong entanglement, but the thought of giving everything up to be together made me hesitate.

Perhaps this love can only live on in memory, because a person can only experience it once in a lifetime.
