Synopsis:

Sixteen years ago, border general Ai Song was framed by a treacherous minister. Before he died, he entrusted his young son to his sworn younger brother, Lan Xu. The two went into hiding and fled from place to place. With the imperial army closing in at every turn, Lan Xu had no choice but to entrust the boy to a local farming family, hoping he would live an ordinary life and remain safe all his days.

Lan Xu was escorted back to the capital, where a princess rescued him. He then lay low for sixteen years, determined to clear Ai Song's name. The following year, during the spring imperial examinations, a military candidate named "Hua Shi" barged into his life. Clever and perceptive, with a mysterious identity and an unpredictable way of doing things, Hua Shi became relentlessly attached to Lan Xu after they grew acquainted.

Meanwhile, the young emperor, having only just taken power, planned to make his mark. His first step was to cultivate trusted aides, and he set his sights on Lan Xu, who had been sidelined for years, ordering him to infiltrate a rebel organization. Then the appearance of the "Marquis of Sui's Pearl," missing for sixteen years, began to uncover a truth buried for just as long. The real culprit seemed to have some connection to Hua Shi.
